Digital Literacy in Evanston

For 20 years I have volunteered at the Evanston Public Library (EPL). Four years ago, I started teaching “Tech Tips” to Library patrons, focusing on specific tips for using Excel, Power Point and Word. My classes gained a following, and requests came in for me to teach MS Office in a more structured way. So I began teaching Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced classes in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. For free.

What I learned is that there is a huge unfulfilled need for Digital Literacy classes in my community. To get started I formed a Digital Literacy Committee at EPL, and for almost a full year we have been working diligently. One of the items we have completed is a digital literacy survey. The preliminary results are posted below.
